    Fun Fact
The 1-11 was the second short-haul jet airliner to enter service, following the French Sud Aviation Caravelle.

The British Aircraft Corporation One-Eleven, aka the BAC 1-11, was a British short-range jet airliner widely used from the 1960s to the 1990s. The aircraft was also produced under licence in Romania during the 1980s as the Rombac One-Eleven.

The One-Eleven was conceived by Hunting Aircraft and developed by the British Aircraft Corporation when Hunting merged into BAC along with other British aircraft manufacturers in 1960. The One-Eleven was intended to replace the turboprop Vickers Viscount on short-range routes. The One-Eleven entered the market ahead of rivals such as the Douglas DC-9-10, which gave it a temporary edge on the market.
The aircraft proved popular with domestic airlines and various international operators. Over half of the One-Eleven's sales at launch were to the US. The One-Eleven was one of the most successful British airliner designs, and served until a widespread retirement in the 1990s, which was partly due to the introduction of aircraft noise restrictions in many European nations. As of May 2019, no BAC One-Eleven aircraft remain in service following Northrop-Grumman's retirement of their last aircraft.

The Airbus A320 family are narrow-body airliners designed and produced by Airbus. The A320 was launched in March 1984, first flew on 22 February 1987, and was introduced in April 1988 by Air France.

In December 2010, Airbus announced the re-engined A320neo (new engine option), which entered service with Lufthansa in January 2016. With more efficient turbofans and improvements including sharklets, it offers up to 15% better fuel economy. Earlier A320s are now called A320ceo (current engine option).

In October 2019, it surpassed the Boeing 737 to become the highest-selling airliner. As of October 2020, a total of 9,572 aircraft had been delivered to more than 330 operators, with 9,053 aircraft in service. American Airlines was the largest operator with 425 airplanes. Orders pending were 6,010, for a total of 15,582 orders. The A320ceo initially competed with the 737 Classic and the MD-80, then their successors, the 737 Next Generation and the MD-90, while the 737 MAX is Boeing's response to the A320neo.

Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX
FSX Steam Edition and Lockheed Martin P3Dv1-3

FSX (Also known as FS10).Many of the aircraft models from FS2004 can be used in FSX but you may find some features wont work.
FSX was the latest incarnation (the 10th) in the franchise but it is now fostered by Dovetail Games who sell it via Steam.
P3D started off as FSX ESP, an FSX development which was bought by Lockheed Martin who fixed many bugs and continued it’s development with the original FSX creators, naming it Prepared. Since then there have been many updates and improvements. There has been a step-change in development when the simulation moved from 32bit to 64bit programming. Generally any plane made for FSX (and earlier in some cases) will work in P3D upto version P3D v3.4. Prepared v4 is the start of 64 bit coding and many models will need updates to make them work - a process which is now underway at UKD and will be mentioned in the text.

Fun Fact: Perhaps unique among prewar aircraft, the DC-3 continues to fly in active commercial and military service as of mid 2018, more than eighty years after the type's first flight in 1935. There are still small operators with DC-3s in revenue service and as cargo aircraft.

The Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner which had a lasting effect on the airline industry in the 1930s/1940s and World War II. It was developed as a larger, improved 14-bed sleeper version of the Douglas DC-2. It is a low-wing metal monoplane with a tailwheel landing gear, powered by two 1,200 hp (890 kW) Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp radial piston engines.

The DC-3 had many exceptional qualities compared to previous aircraft. It was fast, had a good range, was more reliable, and carried passengers in greater comfort. Before the war, it pioneered many air travel routes. It was able to cross the continental US from New York to Los Angeles in 18 hours and with only 3 stops. It is one of the first airliners that could profitably carry only passengers without relying on mail subsidies.

Following the war, the airliner market was flooded with surplus transport aircraft and the DC-3 was no longer competitive due to its size and speed. It was made obsolete on main routes by more advanced types such as the Douglas DC-4 and Lockheed Constellation, but the design proved adaptable and useful on less glamorous routes.

Civil DC-3 production ended in 1942 at 607 aircraft. Military versions, including the C-47 Skytrain brought total production to over 16,000.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

Also known as FS9, FS2004 and A Century of Flight (ACOF).

FS2004 remains very popular with many users because they have invested a lot of money into addon software and because todays PCs can cope with it extremely well. Due to its large fan base many developers still produce software for this sim despite being released in 2003 when many PCs still ran on Windows 98!
Many of these aircraft can be used in FSX but you may find some features dont work. Models designed for FSX usually wont work with FS2004 but a lot of models from FS2002 will.

The Beechcraft Baron is a light, twin-engined piston aircraft originally developed by Beech Aircraft Corporation and currently manufactured by the Hawker Beechcraft Corporation. The Baron is a variant of the Beechcraft Bonanza, more specifically the Travel Air, and was introduced in 1961.

Barons come in three basic types: the Baron 55 (short body), Baron 56  (short body) and Baron 58 (long body), with several sub-variants each.

the larger, more powerful Baron 58 was developed from the Baron 55, introducing club seating, double aft baggage doors, and new gross weight of 5,400lbs. Depending on the variant, the Baron 58 is fitted with either the Continental IO-520 or IO-550 300-hp engine.

The Baron 58 can cruise at 200 knots (370 km/h) at 7000 ft (2100 m). The lengthening of the fuselage increased rear baggage space, as well as accommodating for more comfortable six-place seating over the Baron 55 and 56TC.

    Max speed 386km/h (208kt), cruising speed 367km/h (198kt).
    Initial rate of climb 1735ft/min
    Range with reserves 2920km (1575nm).

UKDirect AirTaxi operates a small fleet of these planes. Visit the AirTaxi webpage for more details.

Some of these aircraft can be used in FSX but you may find they wont fly correctly. FS2002 still has its fans but unless you have a really old PC users should think about upgrading to FS2004 at least.

As better models become available these are being repainted and made available for FSX.

The Bombardier Dash 8 or Q-Series, previously known as the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8, is a series of twin-engined, medium range, turboprop airliners. Introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984, they are now produced by Bombardier Aerospace. Over 1,000 Dash 8’s of all models have been built, the 300 is a 50–56 passenger version that entered service in 1989.

The Dash 8 competes against the likes of Saab’s 340, ATR 42 and Embraer Brasilia and was successful due in part to its early entry into the market when there was little competition and the fact the aircraft breaks even with about 1/3 of its seats filled. All models produced after 1996 include the Active Noise and Vibration Suppression (ANVS) system designed to reduce cabin noise and vibration levels to nearly those of jet airliners. These were marketed as the Q series (Q200, Q300, and Q400).

In April 2008, Bombardier announced that production of the Classic versions (Series 100, 200, 300) would be ended, leaving the Series 400 as the only Dash 8 still in production. 671 Dash 8 Classics were produced, the last one delivered to Air Nelson in May 2008.

    Cruise speed: 328 mph (528 km/h) 285 knots
    Range: 968 miles (1,558 km)
    Service ceiling: 25,000 ft (7,620 m)

UK Direct has a small Dash 8 fleet of 300’s and 400’s based at Southend EGMC and can often be found around the UK.
